Apostille of Certificates
Certificate Apostille is the process of legalizing the document for visa purpose for people travelling abroad for Job, Education or migration.
Apostille in India
The Ministry of External Affairs attests original documents or true copies of documents for using abroad. Attestation is done by the Ministry of External Affairs. In India is a member of the Hague Convention from 20015, that abolished the requirement of legalization of foreign public documents. Apostille is acceptable in 105 plus member- countries of the Convention.(For more info please visit the website: www.hcch.net). So Apostille is done for personal documents like birth ,death,marriage certificates, Affidavits, Power of Attorney, etc. Also for educational documents like degree, diploma, matriculation and secondary level certificates etc. Therefore Any document Apostilled in one member country is acceptable in all the other 105 plus member-countries, signatory to the referred convention of 1961 thus greatly simplifying the process of attestation by making it needless to get the documents attested in each or for each of the countries separately.
Both educational certificates and non educational Certificates can be apostille form MEA. But for Commercial documents Embassy attestation is the mandatory requirement. Apostilles are the certificates or stamping provided by the designated officers of MEA to authenticate the documents for their use in other countries . Hence A list of these authorities is maintained by the Hague Conference on Private International Law. Examples of designated authorities are embassies, ministries, courts or (local) governments
Process and Procedure:
All documents should be first authenticated by the designated agencies in the state from where the document has been issued. For personal documents the home or GAD (general administration department) of the state concerned is the designated authority.
